Explanation Text




What is Explanation?
1.      Definition and purposes of Explanation
Explanation is a text which tells processes relating to forming of natural, social, scientific and cultural phenomena. Explanation text is to say ‘why’ and ‘how’ of the forming of the phenomena. It is often found in science, geography and history text books.
2.      Generic structure of Explanation
  • General statement; stating the phenomenon issues which are to be explained.
  • Sequenced explanation; stating a series of steps which explain the phenomena.
3.      Language Feature
  • Featuring generic participant; sun, rain, etc
  • Using chronological connection; to begin with, next, etc
  • Using passive voice pattern
  • Using simple present tense
4. Example:
Drug For Students

In Indonesia, a drug addict is progress more rapidly. The drug addict is generally aged between 11 to 24 years. It means that age is the age or age of the student.

At first, students were taking drugs usually begins with acquaintance with cigarette. Because the smoking habit seems to have become a natural thing among students today. Therefore from now on we as educators, teachers, and as parents should be alert and vigilant, the dangers of drugs which at times can trap our children alone. With a variety of ways efforts to prevent drug abuse and narcotics let us watch and watch our students of the dangers of these drugs.
